It was the biggest challenge of his career. On June 7, 1867, while the Exposition Universelle was in full swing in Paris, Jacques Offenbach was summoned to the Café Anglais by the Minister of the Interior: he was asked to perform for three Emperors, and to sing for them the best excerpts from his major masterpieces. He enlists the help of his favorite singer, the great Hortense Schneider. But who exactly are these three sovereigns? And who is this mysterious pianist, who suddenly appears and wants to unlock the secrets of Offenbach's musical genius?
