Pontus Lidberg

Born in Stockholm, Pontus Lidberg is an emblematic figure on the international choreographic scene. Trained at the Royal Swedish Ballet and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Paris, he furthered his studies at the University of Göteborg. His immense creativity has led him to create more than 40 works for prestigious institutions such as the New York City Ballet, the Ballet de l'Opéra national de Paris, the Martha Graham Dance Company, the Ballets de Monte-Carlo, the Semperoper Ballet of Dresden, the Royal Ballets of Sweden and Denmark, the Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève, the Beijing Dance Theatre, the National Ballet of Cuba and for his own company in Stockholm and New York. He has also created for institutions such as the Venice Biennale and the Joyce Theatre.

Pontus Lidberg is also a filmmaker, offering an innovative approach combining classical dance, contemporary dance, film and the visual arts. His artistic vision is based on a harmonious dialogue between tradition and modernity, renewing the horizons of dance.

After directing the Danish Dance Theatre company (2018-2023), in December 2024 he will take over the direction of the Ballet de l'Opéra de Nice with the aim of developing a bold programme that is accessible to all, placing creation at the heart of his project. True to his philosophy, he intends to promote dialogue between artistic disciplines and encourage collaborations with emerging and major choreographers and artists. ‘My ambition is to transform the company into a leading artistic institution of this century and beyond.
