Presentation of Nice Philharmonic Orchestra
Founded in 1945, the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra has played an important role in the musical life of the south of France for more than 70 years.
With the help of Lionel Bringuier, Principal Conductor, the Nice Philharmonic surrounds itself with great talents.
A RICH AND VARIED ACTIVITY
The Philharmonic Orchestra presents a season packed with great symphonic concerts, unleashing its full potential during the most monumental repertoire works, under the baton of renowned conductors and with the help of an array of the most brilliant soloists on the international scene.
The Sunday morning musical matinées and youth concerts offer the perfect opportunity to present and introduce the masterpieces of classical musical of all eras, with the talented soloists and musicians of the orchestra, to an uninitiated and always extensive audience.
An average of 20 to 30 chamber music concerts in various venues, such as the Opera Foyer, the Marc Chagall National Museum or L'Artistique are offered each season by musicians from the orchestra.
The Philharmonic Orchestra accompanies all the operatic works of the Nice Côte d'Azur Opera, as well as the great classical ballets scheduled by the Nice Méditerranée Ballet every year at Christmas.
It participates in the great "C'est pas classique" music festival organised each year by the Alpes-Maritimes Department.
It also entertains the city in a number of outdoor concerts – from Place Masséna on Bastille Day to the furthest neighbourhoods of the city – always celebrating the New Year in the company of local Nice enthusiasts.
The "Les Estivales" summer festival organised each year by the Department sees the Orchestra in varied and often simultaneous formations, sharing their music throughout the region during the summer.
AN ECLECTIC REPERTOIRE: THE SEARCH FOR EXCELLENCE
From the Baroque of Vivaldi and Handel to the creation of contemporary works: such is the extent of the orchestra's repertoire – including the complete symphonies of Mahler and Bruckner, alongside those of Brahms and Beethoven. The great works of Richard Strauss – from symphonies to wonderful symphonic poem – alternate with those of Schumann, Mozart, Verdi, Wagner, Stravinsky, Schoenberg, Boulez and more.
To ensure the great musical quality of the ensemble, the Orchestra calls on excellent conductors like Georges Prêtre, Michel Plasson, Lawrence Foster, Jacques Lacombe, Jeffrey Tate, Neeme Järvi, Michal Nesterowicz and Giancarlo Guerrero, among others.
The international reputation that the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra has enjoyed in recent years has driven some of the greatest soloist and musical stars of our time to come and enrich our concerts: Renaud Capuçon, Jonas Kaufmann, Barbara Hendricks, Krystian Zimerman, Nelson Freire, Franck Peter Zimmermann, Julian Rachlin, Cédric Tiberghien, Bertrand Chamayou, Xavier De Maistre, Albrecht Mayer, Cautier Capuçon, Hélène Grimaud and Jean-Yves Thibaudet, to name only the most recent talents who have been accompanied by our prestigious forces.
