Nice Philharmonic Orchestra Direction
French conductor Lionel Bringuier is unquestionably one of the most experienced conductors of his generation. He has conducted the world's finest orchestras, both on stage for memorable concerts and on recordings for various majors. The 2019-2020 season sees his return to his native Nice as associate artist of the Opéra de Nice, as he wished to return to his first love: the Orchestre Philharmonique de Nice.
Over the course of his career, Lionel Bringuier has toured extensively and conducted many world-renowned artists, including pianists Yuja Wang and Hélène Grimaud (the latter in September 2019 at the Opéra de Nice) and legendary violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter. His discography includes two compilations of Ravel's music for Deutsche Grammophon.
Lionel Bringuier has been named Chevalier de l'Ordre National du Mérite by the French Government. He was unanimously awarded the Médaille d'Or with congratulations from the jury at the Prince Rainier III Academy of Monaco, as well as the Aigle de Cristal and the Médaille d'Or from the City of Nice. Under his direction, the Philharmonic Orchestra has recently been invited to prestigious festivals such as the Festival de Pâques d'Aix-en-Provence and the Chorégies d'Orange. This season, at the Opéra de Nice, Lionel Bringuier and the Orchestre Philharmonique will perform alongside pianist Alexandre Tharaud, and in the spring with his long-time partner, violinist Renaud Capuçon.
In December 2023, he was appointed Principal Conductor of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Nice.
