World première. A SUD Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Region initiative, Régie culturelle régionale, Nice Côte d’Azur Opera, Grand Avignon Opera, Toulon Provence Méditerranée Opera, City of Marseille – Opera co-production

From age 6 and up

One day, having discovered a handsome young man on a boat while out exploring, the Little Mermaid falls madly in love with him and hopes to leave the sea behind to live in the world of humans. But love is full of disappointments …

For his new opera, the composer from Marseille, Régis Campo, has chosen to reinterpret Andersen's famous tale, presenting it in all its modernity. Beyond the terrible cruelty of this story, here, he speaks to us of love, renunciation and accepting difference … With his always alert and oh-so-colourful style, in a language both simple and yet profound, he offers us a work which speaks to both young people and adults alike.

Magic and dreamlike, this opera is a fantastic ode to love, mutual aid and the refusal of vengeance and violence.

Show in French with surtitles in French and English.
